A Room with Two Views: Springtime at the Cottage

There is a brief, magical window every year in Raytown when the world outside our cottage doors decides to put on its finest show. If you happen to be staying with us during this time, you don’t even have to leave the comfort of your bed to experience it.

Nature’s Palette, Framed by Every Window

I took this photo because it perfectly captures the "hidden gem" feel of our cottage. From the bedroom, you are greeted by the soft, romantic pinks of our blooming peach tree. It’s like waking up inside a painting.

But the charm doesn’t stop at the bedroom door. If you glance through to the ensuite, the view shifts entirely to a vibrant, sun-drenched yellow. It’s a double dose of nature’s spring colors, visible from the exact same spot in the house.

The Ultimate Cozy Retreat

While we love our Kansas City explorers, there is something deeply restorative about just being here. We’ve designed this space to be a sanctuary where:

  • The outside comes in: Large windows act as living art pieces that change with the seasons.
  • Small moments matter: Whether it’s the warm glow of the bedside lamp or the crisp patterns of the quilt, every detail is meant to make you feel "en casa."
  • Seasons are celebrated: From the nectar flow in the garden to the first blossoms on the trees, there is always a rhythm to watch.

Whether you're here for a World Cup match or just a quiet weekend away from the hustle, the cottage offers a front-row seat to the beauty of the Midwest. We can’t wait to share these views with you.

The Day the Seasons Turned: A Cozy KC Snow Day

You’ve heard the saying about Kansas City weather: "If you don’t like it, just wait five minutes." Well, this week, we didn’t just experience a change of clothes—we experienced a total reset. One afternoon we were basking in an unseasonable 75 degrees; by 9 PM, the barometer plummeted, and we went straight into a deep winter freeze in the teens.

A Garden of Ice and Flowers

The morning after was surreal. The sudden freeze met the residual warmth of the ground, transforming our spring growth into a beautiful, unexpected contrast.

Looking out from the garden gate, the snow isn't a deep powder; it's a slushy glaze resting right on top of the vibrant green grass. You can see our brave forsythia pushing its brilliant gold blooms through the ice—a striking sight of spring's resilience against the sudden chill.

From Slushy Paths to Fireside Comfort

While the garden is beautiful in its "ice coat," the real magic happens when you step through the cottage door.

The best way to handle a 180-degree weather flip is to retreat to the living room. As the slush settled outside, we headed straight for the electric fireplace. Integrated into the media console, it provides an instant, flickering glow that completely changes the energy of the room.

There is nothing quite like sinking into the oversized leather sofa, watching the snow through the windows, while the fireplace radiates warmth just a few feet away. It turns an unpredictable weather day into the perfect excuse for a "slow day" inside.

Your Front-Row Seat to the Seasons

Whether you are curling up with a book in the patterned armchair or enjoying a movie night by the fire, the cottage is designed to be your sanctuary. We provide the cozy blankets and the easy-to-use fireplace; Mother Nature provides the ever-changing show outside the windows.

When you stay with us, you aren’t just booking a room—you’re reserving a front-row seat to the beautiful, unpredictable drama of the Midwest. And we promise the coffee is always hot.
